Polar Bear to Be a Protected Species - New York Times

Winter is a rescued dolphin from the Clearwater Aquarium in Florida.  Finding the right prosthetic to fit Winter’s fluke has been a long process that has lasted over a year and a half.  It is a great success story that has stemmed from the care and desire to learn more from people in the field.

This is very exciting for Georgia Aquarium.  For those of you who don’t know, the Georgia Aquarium is one of the few aquariums around the world that houses whale sharks.  They will now implement an interactive program with bottlenose dolphins.  The initial animals will be from Marineland of Florida which is the oldest marine mammal facility in the United States.

Stranded whales are not an everyday sight, but it does happen, unfortunately.  In Scotland, a killer whale and a minke whale were both stranded in the last week.  There are all sorts of reasons for this happening, however without a necropsy done, it is hard to guess the cause of death.

Check out this video from BBC. I have posted an article on this previously, however this one has great footage.

This story has been published heavily about two men who swam with a wild female dolphin who is now claimed to be dead.  This incident had been video recorded and several witnesses observed the two drunken men swim around near the dolphin.  It was noted that the dolphin was in distress as it was jumping and breaching around the two men.  Hopefully others will learn from the two men’s actions.
